Relate Fractions, Decimals, and Percents
Name Period
Objectives / Objetivos
Content Objective: I can write equivalent fractions, decimals, and percents for the same value.
Language Objective: I can explain my conversions using the words percent, decimal, equivalent, and benchmark.
Key Idea / Idea clave
To turn a fraction into a percent, build an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100: ask “what do I multiply the denominator by to get 100?” and multiply the numerator by that same number. The new numerator is the percent.
I Notice / Observo
- What are three different ways to write the same number?
- If a player scored 3/4 of the points, what percent is that?
I Wonder / Me pregunto
- Are some fractions easier to convert than others?

Practice Preview / Vista previa de práctica
- Sort these values — which are greater than 50% and which are less than 50%?
- Place each value on the number line: A = 3/8, B = 0.6, C = 85%
- A game shows your score as 7/8 complete. What percent is that?
- 87.5%
- 78%
- 75%
- 88%
- Find the Conversion Error
- Step 1: Convert 2/3 to a percent — 2/3
- Step 2: Divide numerator by denominator — 2 ÷ 3 = 0.67
- Step 3: Move decimal two places — 0.67 → 67%
- Step 4: Final answer — 2/3 = 67%
Which step has the mistake? Explain it and write the correct work.
